This day was a first. It's the first time I've gone outside after the stroke. It’s the first time I’ve gone public. It's the first time I went outside with a wheelchair.

Go for it!

Because of the surgery, the doctors had shaved off all my hair. My mom was nice enough to get me a wig xD But seriously, going outside in a wheelchair for the first time made me nervous. I was worried that people would stare at me. I was seriously embarrassed to go outside just because I was "disabled". I was scared. I was worried. What would other people think when they saw me? My self-esteem was very low at the time. Now, 7 years later, I couldn't care less. But that's another story ;D

What I'm getting at is that there is nothing to be afraid of or ashamed of if you have a disability. What happens if you are on the street and someone stares at you? Nothing! Sure, it can be uncomfortable, but you are just a normal person who wants to enjoy life. And that's what you should do! If you keep going out, you will automatically be able to ignore the looks of others. You won't even notice it anymore. Try it ^^ Go outside, enjoy the time. You will gain self-confidence!

The sydney wildlife zoo

My regret

Moving on to the sea life sydney aquarium

Koalabär

The Sea Life Sydney Aquarium has the world's largest collection of Australian marine life. On the homepage (link can be found again at the end of the text) you can read which animals are there. The most impressive thing was probably the walk-in glass tunnel. From there you had a great look at the animals. But somehow the sea life was quite small ... or my perception was a bit bad xD I don’t know but it was barrier-free and can be visited without problems.

Anyways, that was my first trip in a wheelchair. Although I want to mention here that a staff member of the hospital wanted to go with me to Bondi Beach ... unfortunately we never made it until then, because I almost threw up xD What a shame, but that’s another thing for me to do in the future then ^^

And here is a short Video

Three things I learned today:
1) You should overcome your fear and go outside, then it will become a habit
2) The "Wildlife Sydney Zoo" and the "Sea Life" are barrier-free
3) I should have picked up the koala bear, how often do you get such an opportunity?
